Solution Focused Therapy

Solution focused therapy is a brief psychotherapy that is goal oriented. Unlike the other therapies, this therapy focuses on the solution to the problem rather than problem itself. The idea behind the therapy is that there are always exceptions to the problem.

For instance if a person is a chain smoker, then there would have been times when he would have smoked less in a day as compared to others or not smoked at all. The aim is to find out the exceptions to the problem of the client. The client is the miracle worker who wants to bring in a change to his behavior.

The therapist acts as a coach, instilling hope and guiding the client to focus on what they can do rather than what they cannot do. And with this positive outlook the client along with the therapist generate productive solutions for the clients’ problems.
