Psycho oncology counseling

A diagnosis of cancer is like a sudden shock. It comes out of nowhere and is gut wrenching. It is not just the patient who is affected but the whole family. Their whole world is turned upside down, affecting all spheres of life be it personal, social, economical or psychological.

Psycho oncology counseling focuses on providing the support to the patient and the family members to help survive through the difficult time. It helps them to rationalize their thoughts, build compliance towards the treatment and make the necessary transition from pre illness to post illness phase through lifestyle changes.

Strategies regarding how to best cope with the situation, resource management and planning and making goals for the future are taught. The grief counseling helps to reduce the level of distress faced.
